Dr. Helen Jarvis

Helen Jarvis is Reader in Social Geography at Newcastle University. She has published three books on cities, housing, gender and work/life balance, and numerous articles and book chapters on pragmatic utopias, alternative visions of home and family life, and age-friendly community resilience. Current research connects social and environmental justice through grassroots civic empowerment; radical debate on real-world sustainable degrowth; social infrastructures of cohousing that address rising loneliness; and experiments in sharing systems of collective co-production. She has written extensively in English on the iconic Danish intentional community of Christiania, both in academic and popular, activist publications.
