Making Cohousing more affordable - successful strategies and planning ahead
As documented in 2007, cohousing communities have been strikingly resourceful in reducing costs and keeping home prices down for their original members. But for several reasons, "the market" serves fewer people, and within our movement, many would like to see our movement reaching greater racial and economic diversity.

With slides, handouts, and discussion, participants will get:
  1. descriptions of successful strategies and specific federal programs and how to use them.
  2. navigating challenging financing and permitting systems, and public perceptions of "affordable housing."
  3. making "the case" for your community with neighbors, financiers, and local decision-makers
  4. tools for seeing the bigger picture (environmental scans and power analysis)
  5. why and how we/the movement can be federating and allying to open up more types of financing and have more social influence
